Look, if you’re not picking up with Hugo Manuel (aka Chad Valley) is putting down, you’re already behind the curve. Dude’s got them pipes that shiver me timbers - he’s the real deal. Here, he’s leading his outfit of buds - Sam Scott, Robin McDiarmid, Dominic Hand - from Oxford, UK doing a brilliant take away performance of their newest single. Gotta get past the 3 minute mark, too. Big payoff thru the bridge.

The new Point of Go LP is out on Dovecote Records in the US this week and Blessing Force in the UK next week.

So really is it possible to take two geniuses like James Murphy and David Bowie and then sort of mashup two stellar jams of theirs and umm cover them to a perfect brilliant tee!? The answer is fuck yes it’s possible. Brooklyn’s Lightouts (Greg Nelson and Gavin Rhodes) do just that. Seriously this is so good I don’t really know what do do with myself! Being a seven piece indie pop group from Glasgow, I’m sure Butcher Boy get the Belle & Sebastian comparison a lot, but the thing that grabbed my attention was what I thought to be a similarity to some of my favorite records from The Go-Betweens. Whichever the comparison, it’s favorable as Butcher Boy has a distinct charm all it’s own, from the smart writing to the ear-candy melodies to the assured instrumentation. It’s a great track, worth a couple of dozen listens.

That beautiful moment when you fall in love with an album at first listen is the best feeling in the world. It’s like meeting someone and knowing you are going to spend the rest of your life with them, as if you two were meant to be by cosmic destiny. This is how felt when I first listened to Beirut’s recently released album, The Rip Tide. It ripped my heart out, tore me asunder, and made me anew. It showed me the true beauty of music, how each note is one step closer to enlightenment. I feel a connection with this album as though it is meant to be in the soundtrack of my life. Beirut has done it again, five magnificent albums in a row that continue to dazzle my heart and raise my spirits.
